Cafe Huntington

We were fortunate to participate in December's Cafe Huntington event Tuesday evening, and we ended up winning $400 toward the local music samplers. Check out today's Herald-Dispatch article for more about the samplers and Cafe Huntington:

In the news today...

http://www.herald-dispatch.com/life/x1644065655/Local-eclectic-music-available-on-music-CD-samplers Thanks Dave Lavender for hooking us up with this very well-written article on the new samplers. Solid press for all our great Huntington bands.

Monday

Two new samplers roaming the streets...

Plenty of Huntington artists have earned a reputation around town with great original sounds, building their respective fan bases in the process. We've been cooking up an idea for quite a while now, and the time is upon us to share in this tasty local music feast. The Huntington Underground Fall Sampler (two of them, actually...why not?) arranges a smorgasbord of musical home cooking -- a family meal of sorts for the H-Town music community -- and invites the masses to come and eat. Mmmm...tasty local music...

Fall Samplers A (Rooster) and B (Honey Badger) compile the following bands & artists together for a demonstration of what you may or may not realize is happening in Huntington: Deadbeats & Barkers, Sasha Colette & The Magnolias, Qiet, AC30, Sly Roosevelt, Bad Employees, Coyotes in Boxes, Party or Die!, Wilbur By The Sea, Jordan Andrew Jefferson, Sir Boy, Bradley Jenkins, and The Erik Woods Hayride. There's still much more music to be represented, and more samplers are planned for the near future.

The first batch is floating around town as we speak, so explore some local venues & shows and get your hands on one. Some sponsorships are in the works as well, meaning there should soon be a few hundred more copies making their way into the cracks and crevices (and ears) of Huntington...

CornZine reviews

Here's a repost from the resurrected CornZine's Facebook page:

"We finally have a PO Box! What does this mean? It means that we have a place for bands, labels, zines, book companies, video game companies, etc., to send material to us to review. It's CornZine, PO Box 351, Barboursville, WV 25504."

Sir-Boy's tasty remix skills

Huntington's Sir-Boy is an electronica artist preparing a new full-length release, Memoirs of a Robotic Mind. From what we've heard of it so far, it's gonna be good. (By the way, his first full-length, A Fantastic Booty Machine, is available now.)

Here's a conglomeration of local talent rolled into one YouTube video: Local pop artist Jordan Andrew Jefferson's latest single, remixed by Sir-Boy, set to the local short film Intrusion (directed by Dwaine Williams and starring Jefferson). Add some classic area bands to your music library for free

There are two great sites we've been diving into recently that offer free downloads of classic Huntington area bands.

First, our friends at WVRockscene have been compiling lots of West Virginia music at their BandCamp page. Along with free samples from current Huntington bands like Wine & Water (alongside a band interview in their most recent post), you can explore the right-hand column for free downloads of several bands from the past few years including Sarasota, Attack Flamingo and The Dig-Its.

Also, Dana White (Holden Caulfield) has a sweet collection of regional music downloads growing all the time: Exploding Eardrums. They're all hosted by MediaFire with the bands' consent and virus-free. In his words: "THESE ARE LEGAL TO DOWNLOAD. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS BLOG." Not bad advice at all when the list of bands includes 69 Fingers, American Minor, Chum, Füd, Holden Caulfield, Hyatari, Lincoln, Neutral Agreement, Rabble Rousers, Transistor Indiana.....

Jewel City Films: Huntington promo and K Kutta interview

"This is my base... I told the label they're gonna have to come find me. So I brought them to my town... Last month I had people from Universal here, and all that. I brought them to the town." This Jewel City Films promo shows Huntington in a great light...

Hypebot article about building music movements

"?uestlove described how big acts in popular music had always been part of larger music movements, so that's what he and Roots' manager Richard Nichols decided to try to create. It's an interesting perspective that one sees echoed in the building of local scenes, musician collectives and even festivals yet one rarely hears music marketers encouraging musicians to build community beyond one centered on the musician in question."
